We
now have a beautiful, large hot tub!
Welcome to Swingin’ Sophie’s a 1900’s era cottage on a quaint
dirt road in the reputed Red Light District of Tybee Island’s
Fort Screven Historic District. This charming cottage was completely
renovated in 2004 with absolute attention to detail as well as
an ingrained respect for the structure, its history and its surroundings.
The
complete renovation of this cottage entailed thorough modernization
along with a nod to the past. The fully-equipped kitchen is a
cook’s dream while the two tiled bathrooms offer quiet sanctuary
with amenities like heated floors and high-end fixtures. The original
petite claw-foot bathtub has been in the house for almost 100
years.
There are two full bedrooms with free-standing antique furniture
and closets as well as a central room with a daybed and trundle
along with many overstuffed cushions. The living room is an open
airy space boasting twelve foot ceilings like the rest of the
cottage and tall windows facing an expansive front porch with
swing and furniture. The living room also has a down sofa that
converts to sleep two so that the house can comfortably accommodate
eight. The huge screened rear porch serves ostensibly as another
room and features a round-top antique kitchen table that seats
eight along with a sideboard for serving and a couple easy chairs
for lounging. All rooms including the porches feature high volume
ceiling fans.
Era-unique details abound with original passage doors stripped
to revealed layer upon layer of paint notions, hardwood floors
painted in ivory, original tongue-and-groove and bead-board woodwork
throughout. Eccentric elements like the wood shingle of the former
owners’ print shop, an “original” paint by numbers oil , and a
shelf full of wire chickens greeting the morning sun, add personal
touches to the character of the house and a welcome break from
the hum-drum.
